Why Make Cherry Krispie Treats
You all should know by now my crazy obsession with Rice Krispie Treats.
I don’t make them very often (even though I’ve perfected how to make Rice Krispie Treats), because I can’t control myself around them.
Self control aside, I can’t let a few months go by without sharing another Krispie treat recipe.
If you love chocolate covered cherries, this is likely to be your new favorite Rice Krispie treat.
Make them for Valentine’s Day, for a birthday or anytime you want to share something sweet with someone you love!

Ingredient Notes
You only need 5 ingredients to make easy krispie treats with Jello:
My secret for making all kinds of flavors of Rice Krispie bars is gelatin powder. Choose your flavor, find the corresponding instant jello packet and make something amazing with very little thought or effort.
- Rice krispie cereal – Make sure it’s fresh and not stale.
- Cherry flavored gelatin powder
- Mini marshmallows – for an even chewier treat, add an additional cup of mini mallows to the cereal when mixing (don’t melt them).
- Butter
- Melted dark chocolate
Tip for Cherry Rice Krispie Treats
- Use a gentle hand: When pressing the rice krispie mixture into the baking pan, make sure to press lightly. The harder you press, the harder the finished treats will be.
- Dampen your fingers: Hate when rice krispie treat batter gets stuck on your fingers? Run your hands under water before you press the treats into the pan. No sticking, no mess!
- Cutting Rice Krispie Treats: If the treats are getting stuck to your knife when you slice them into bars, spray a very thin layer of cooking spray on the knife first.
- Get creative with shapes: I’m a fan of the classic bar shape for Rice Krispie Treats but I love them in any form! These would be perfect to cut with a heart shaped cookie cutter. Make sure to spray the cookie cutter with nonstick cooking spray first.
The bright pink color and addition of smooth dark chocolate makes Cherry Rice Krispie Treats stand out from the crowd!

- 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- 10 ounce Ghirardelli dark chocolate melting wafers melted

Instructions
- In large saucepan, melt butter with marshmallows on low heat. Stir constantly until marshmallows are completely melted and smooth. Add in gelatin powder, mixing until smooth.
- Fold in rice krispies cereal. Press mixture into a buttered 13×9 baking dish. If you want THICKER treats, use a 9-inch square pan. Frost treats with melted dark chocolate. Allow to set, about one hour. Cut into squares and enjoy. Store in a covered container.
Notes
- Sugar free gelatin does not work well with this recipe.
- I like Ghirardelli dark chocolate melting wafers for best flavor and texture.

Hello!
Can you tell me what does the jello do for the treats???
Great question!!! Now you have me wondering too!!!! Did you try it with pudding??
They are very good. I will put the first ingredients in the microwave instead of the stove.
Made these last week for a bday cake for a friends grandson. His theme was soccer so i made a sheet cake and then used this recipe to shape a half circle and put it on top of the green field grass fristing i used for the cake. Then, i frosted i hexagons with melted dark chocolate and white chocolate on tbe rice krispie soccer ball. The cherry and chocolate worked great on the chocolate cake
Thanks for the great idea
Hi Aimee, I realize this recipe post is about 5 years old or so now so I am hoping this question will make it’s way to you: based on this exact recipe, how many rice cereal bars/squares should be yielded? A dozen? And is this based on a 9″×13″×2″ rectangular (glass) baking dish? I am going to try my hand at this tomorrow for my daughter’s LAST EVER High School Choir concert as she is graduating in OMG less than a month now and then going away to college!!!! Soooo, this really caught my eye bc the colour just POPS but the flavor mixture sounds out of this world and is actually one of my daughter’s favorites. I will be trying these and also either the peanut butter balls OR the cereal treats on the popsicle sticks, I think that is a right clever idea!
Thanks! xx
Elise
It is a 13×9, so you can make them whichever size you prefer 🙂 Congrats to your daughter!! My oldest daughter graduates high school this Saturday 🙁
Could you use pudding instead?
Sure!

These look yummy!!! Love the Cherry idea!
Can you mix in dark chocolate or milk chocolate chips instead of the drizzle?
What size baking sheet did you use?
What a wonderful idea! I am attending a baby shower and plan to take these as well as a batch made with blue raspberry Jell-o !
Fun!!
how easy is it to double this recipe?
