Peanut Butter Marshmallow Treats
A fluffernutter is a sandwich made with marshmallow fluff and peanut butter. But it’s so much more than a sandwich! It’s an EXPERIENCE.
As a kid, fluffernutter’s were the quick and easy snack or lunchbox treasure. Big bites of peanut butter, fluff and wonder bread were washed down with an ice cold glass of milk after school.
I might not be a kid any more but I still love peanut butter and marshmallow fluff. They’re the perfect addition to another lifelong favorite of mine: Rice Krispie Treats!
Fluffernutter Rice Krispie Treats are soft, chewy no-bake peanut butter krispie treats with ribbons of gooey marshmallow and topped with mini peanut butter cups. Perfect rice krispies recipe for peanut butter lovers!
Our fluffernutter cookies take that classic peanut butter marshmallow combo and create a chewy treat!
Ingredient Notes
- Marshmallows – You will need both mini marshmallows AND regular size marshmallows to make these treats.
- Peanut butter – We used creamy peanut butter, but crunchy peanut butter will work too if you like the texture.
- Peanut butter morsels – There are melted and spread over the tops of the rice krispie treats.
- Mini Reese’s peanut butter cups – We pressed them on top of the bars at the end because chocolate makes everything better!
You’ll also need puffed rice cereal (Rice Krispies) and unsalted butter for this Fluffernutter Rice Krispie Treats recipe.
Tips and Tricks
- Line your baking dish! Rice Krispie Treats are STICKY! Place a square of parchment paper on the bottom of your baking dish to prevent sticking. The parchment makes it easier to lift the finished treats from the pan, too!
- Use the butter wrapper or the plastic marshmallow bag to press the rice cereal mixture into the pan to keep your fingers from getting sticky.
- Press LIGHTLY. When you add the treat mixture to the pan, use as gentle of a touch as possible. The harder you press, the harder and denser your finished Fluffernutter Rice Krispie Treats will be.
- Store these bars in an airtight container at room temperature. Enjoy within 5 days for best taste–but I bet you’ll eat them up long before then!
Recipe FAQs
I melt the peanut butter chips in the microwave. Use a glass, microwave-safe bowl. Heat in 30 second increments, stirring between each one until the morsels are smooth and melted.
If the melted morsels are too thick, whisk in a little vegetable oil. Add 1 teaspoon at a time until you reach the desired consistency.
Yes, you can. Chop your full size marshmallows into small pieces, then fold them into the treat mixture as directed in place of the miniature marshmallows.
I don’t recommend freezing rice krispie treats, personally. I know others do, but I find the texture of the treats changes when they thaw. You’ll enjoy these fluffernutter krispie treats so much better FRESH!
This delicious krispie treat recipe was inspired by one of my favorite fudge recipes. Fluffernutter Fudge!

Ingredients
- 10 ounce bag regular sized marshmallows
- ¼ cup unsalted butter
- ½ cup creamy peanut butter
- 5 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- 1 ¼ cup mini marshmallows
- 1 bag Reese's peanut butter morsels, melted 10 ounce
- 2 bags Reese's Mini Peanut Butter Cups 8 ounce each
Instructions
- In a large pot, melt butter over medium heat. Add marshmallows and turn heat to low. Stir until completely smooth. Remove from heat and quickly stir in peanut butter. Add cereal.
- Fold in the mini marshmallows. Pour Krispies treats into a 9inch square baking dish lined with parchment paper (or buttered foil). DO NOT PRESS them in tightly. Just very gently even the top of the treats (I use the butter wrapper or marshmallow bag wrapper to press it in). Spread melted peanut butter morsels over the top.
- Top the melted peanut butter morsels with the peanut butter cups. Press those in so they stick! Allow to set, about one hour. Cut into squares and store in an airtight container. ENJOY.
Hi ! I have made these so many times and they are my signature cookie for gatherings. My boy’s friends request them. My advice is to have everything pre-measured out and ready to go because after the marshmallows are melted and peanut butter is stirred in , adding the krispies and little marshmallows go very quickly. Also , if you can have someone hold the pot while you pour it into the pan , it helps, but not necessary. I used to put these in a 13 x 9 pan, but I now put it in the suggested 9×9 and I like it better. Also, I melt one and a half of another bag of peanut butter morsels. They are just so good- thank you for this winner of a recipe!
PS. I put a sheet of parchment in the pan and use clips to keep it in place when I pour in the krispies mixture. Then it lifts out of the pan easily for cutting on a cutting board.
I’m wondering if anyone has tried to use “NATURAL” peanut butter in this recipe? The kind where the oil “sets” on top of the jar. Thank-you in advance.
Other have asked, please answer the question on pan size. You state a 9 inch square pan. How do you get 32 servings from that small of a pan? What is the size of the bars?
These are awesome but I found I had to add vegetable oil to the melted peanut butter chips because they wouldn’t spread well otherwise. Not sure if any one had this same issue or not?
Hmmm, I occasionally have had trouble melting my PB chips too. The key is to heat them slowly. Glad they turned out good in the end 🙂
can I is fluff in store of marshmallow if so how much
32 squares from a 9″ square pan? Did you mean a 9×13 instead?
Yea that’s whats I was wondering too.
Oh, goodness! I missed the “melted” part in the ingredients list and was expecting a step telling me to do that. My bad. I guess I was so excited to make these I read too fast. So sorry! And they were wonderful. A keeper. Thanks!
These are great. However, in the recipe above, I think you left out the step where you melt the Reese’s Morsels and spread the melted morsels over the top of the cereal mixture, before putting the Mini Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups on top. I figured it out, but it would be helpful to have that step included.
Hmmm, I see it there.
I agree. Step #2 says pour treats into pan. Then Step #3 goes directly to ‘Top the melted peanut butter morsels with the peanut butter cups.” It never tells you to pour melted peanut butter chips over crispy treats. I figured it out after looking at the photo, but at first I thought maybe the melted chips were supposed to be added in with the creamy peanut butter in step #1.
Oh, gotcha. Just fixed it! Thanks so much for the heads up.
Made these for thanksgiving reunion- they were so amazing that everyone loved them. Thanks for sharing!
These look amazing! I’ll be bringing them to a Labor Day BBQ. Yum!
I made these and they are delicious. I have one question. Do your mini peanut butter cups melt? Mine started melting as soon as I put them on.
