Why This Recipe Works
Remember this Buffalo Chicken Dip I was so crazy about? I figured out a way to turn it into a dinner. All the fabulous taste of the Frank’s red hot flavor with tender chicken baked into a ring!
How was this NOT going to be delicious? I love when I can essentially have a big bowl of creamy dip for dinner without having to make excuses.
- The cream cheese adds tons of creaminess to balance out the spicy chicken!
- This is cut into slices and eaten with a fork but tastes like all the best finger foods.
- Serve with a creamy blue cheese dipping sauce to drizzle over the ring – this really takes it over the top!
When it comes to the Ranch v. Bleu Cheese debate regarding buffalo chicken, I am firmly in Team Blue Cheese dressing.
That said, if you are a ranch lover, you could serve this with a ranch dressing instead. Whatever you do, just make the recipe!
Ingredient Notes
- Chicken – You can use chicken breasts and cook as directed in the recipe card below, or substitute a store-bought rotisserie chicken or leftover shredded chicken to make this recipe even quicker and easier.
- Hot Sauce – I use and love Frank’s Red Hot Wing Sauce for an authentic Buffalo flavor.
- Cream Cheese – I recommend a full-fat cream cheese for the best, richest flavor in this recipe. Also, the bricks of cream cheese melt in better for the sauce than a tub.
- Crescent Rolls – You need TWO rolls of refrigerated crescent rolls to make this ring.
- Blue Cheese – I adore a blue cheese dressing with this buffalo chicken, but you could skip it or substitute homemade ranch dressing if you prefer.
Easy Instructions
Step 1. Make the chicken filling. Cook your chicken in a large saucepan then add the chopped celery during the last minute or two, just to soften it slightly. Drain off the excess water then add the remaining ingredients and stir to combine.
Step 2. Arrange the crescent rolls. Unroll a package of crescent rolls and lay it in a circle shape, with the wide part in the center and the point facing outward. Repeat with a second package of crescent rolls on the pizza stone. Use your fingertips to press them gently together and create an “indentation” to fill with Buffalo Chicken.
Step 3. Fill and wrap. Fill the center ring with buffalo chicken then wrap your first layer of crescents over the filling. Repeat with the second layer of crescents. Most of your filling should be covered at this point. You can firmly but gently stretch the crescent rolls to cover it completely.
Step 4. Bake the ring. Bake the buffalo chicken ring in a 375 degree F oven for 25 minutes.
Step 5. Make the dressing. Meanwhile, mix up the blue cheese dressing. You can serve the dip at room temperature if you’re in a rush or heat it up so it’s extra creamy.
Tips & Tricks
- Be sure to drain off the excess water after cooking the chicken and celery, before adding the remaining ingredients. Otherwise, you might get a soggy chicken ring.
- To make this even faster, you could use leftover shredded chicken for this recipe–or a ready cooked rotisserie chicken. Just warm the chicken in a pot with all the other filling ingredients until everything is softened and heated through.
- I use a pizza stone to arrange my ring so I can transfer it to the oven and the table without needing a serving platter. You can place the dressing right in the middle of the ring and add celery sticks for garnish.
- If you don’t have a pizza stone, you can also make this on a large cookie sheet. After it’s cooled, slide it off onto a serving platter to transfer to the table.
- Serving suggestions: Add a salad or side dish along with the chicken ring to make a complete meal. A simple mandarin salad is a delicious green side! Or whip up our easy copycat Olive garden salad.
Recipe FAQs
I love this best served right away when it’s still hot from the oven. Slice into wedges and enjoy with a fork.
Leftovers can be wrapped and kept in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven or toaster oven until warmed through.
You can make the buffalo chicken mixture and blue cheese dressing ahead of time. But wait to assemble the ring right before you bake it or the rolls will get soggy.

Ingredients
For the ring:
- 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts cut into bite size pieces
- 1 Tablespoon olive oil
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ¾ cup celery diced
- 5 ounce Frank’s Hot Sauce
- 1 package cream cheese, softened 8 ounce
- 2 packages refrigerated crescent rolls
For the blue cheese:
- ½ cup mayonnaise
- ½ cup sour cream
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ¼ cup milk I use fat free
- ½ cup crumbled blue cheese
Instructions
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium high heat. Add chicken, salt and pepper and cook until chicken is thoroughly cooked (about 6-8 minutes, but check yours as cooking times vary). Add celery and cook an additional minute or two. Drain off excess water. Add hot sauce and cream cheese and mix until combined thoroughly. Set aside.
- Using a large pizza pan, open packages of crescent rolls. Lay the first package in a large circle, connecting the wide part of the crescent roll in the center. Top with second package of crescents. Use fingertips to combine and create an indentation to add chicken mixture. Fill indentation with buffalo chicken. Roll triangles up over filling, using hands to spread dough as needed.
- Bake in a 375 degree oven for 25 minutes.
- While cooking, combine dressing ingredients in a small saucepan. Heat over low, stirring occasionally, until creamy. Serve with Buffalo Chicken Ring.
Notes
- Swap out the blue cheese for homemade ranch dressing if you prefer!
- To make this even faster, you could use leftover shredded chicken for this recipe–or a ready cooked rotisserie chicken. Just warm the chicken in a pot with all the other filling ingredients until everything is softened and heated through.
- If you don’t have a pizza stone, you can also make this on a large cookie sheet. After it’s cooled, slide it off onto a serving platter to transfer to the table.
- The Frank’s Hot Sauce gives this its signature "buffalo" style flavor. If you don’t have it or prefer not to use it, sub with your favorite buffalo sauce!
- I love this best served right away when it’s still hot from the oven. Leftovers can be wrapped and kept in the fridge to reheat in the oven.
- Make sure to pinch the crescent roll dough sides together well so that you don’t get any stray chicken filling falling out. I used a gentle but firm touch to keep both crescent layers together without breaking.
